Spot 5 Take 5: first products available!

The Spot 5 Take 5 experiment, carried out jointly by CNES and ESA since early April, is going on as expected with the acquisition of data covering the predefined sites and the beginning of the processing of the images already available. The dissemination of products has already started.

All the details concerning this experiement are available on the Cesbio blog dedicated to image time series or on the ESA site devoted to annoucement of opportunities.

Spot 5 Take 5 : here we go!

Building on the success of the Spot 4 Take 5 experiment, a new project based on the Spot 5 satellite has just been decided jointly by CNES and ESA. The corresponding data will be collected from April to October 2015 and will allow to create new Sentinel-2 like time series.

The deadline to submit a proposal in the frame of this new experiment is December 8, 2014. Some of the test sites have already been defined by CNES or ESA depending on their own needs.

More information is available on the Cesbio blog dedicated to image time series or on the ESA site devoted to annoucement of opportunities.

3rd Kalideos OSR MiPy User Day

The 3rd Kalideos OSR MiPy User Day took place on April 23, 2014 at Cesbio premises in Toulouse.

The aim was to take stock of the setting up of the Kalideos OSR MiPy database and its availability to the user community after 3 years of existence, at presenting part of the research work and the related results achieved during the last year and at collecting requirements to carry on with the database development.

The presentations given during this event, as well as the minutes of the meeting, are available for downlaoding in the Contributions section.

Kalideos Littoral users in the limelight !

Using satellite imagery available through the Kalideos Littoral database, the GEO Transfert scientific experts have developed a whole set of services focusing on coastal areas which they now offer beyond the limits of the Arcachon lagoon.

These efforts resulted in their being praised in the press, as well as on TV, since Virginie Lafon was interviewed during the "Signal de fin - Aquitaine" story of the Thalassa program "Facing the storms", broadcast on April 4 by France 3 and dedicated to climate events which affected French coasts last winter.

Welcome to the Kalideos Web site !

The Kalideos programme, set up by CNES during year 2000, aims at developing remote sensing reference databases for the scientific community.

In the frame of this programme, four databases have been implemented to support the integration of satellite imagery in basic or applied research projects :

PNG - 2.4 ko
  • The Adam database, devoted to the agricultural field and the space data assimilation process within agronomic models,
PNG - 1.6 ko
  • The Isle-Réunion database, the multi-thematic purpose of which makes it possible to cover quite varied topics, from decision making support in tropical agriculture to volcanology,
PNG - 1.3 ko
  • The Littoral database, which addresses issues more particularly related to coastal areas,
PNG - 2.1 ko
  • The OSR MiPy database, focusing more particularly on the management of water resources in an agricultural context and on land planning issues.

These databases are exclusively reserved for scientific use, whatever the country of origin of the researchers who want to consult them. They are aimed at research and development programmes focused on the development of new applications, or activities intended for demonstrating the potential of spatial data for a specific field, consistently with the implementation of the Copernicus initiative (formerly known as GMES - Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) .

The Kalideos databases are regularly updated, among others by the research teams which use them in their work This server describes the features of each of them, as well as examples of concrete applications carried out using their content. It also details the procedure to follow in order to access to this content.
